Not Doing Research Before Purchasing Plants
We couldn’t tell you how many times we talk to homeowners and have them tell us that they didn’t know a certain shrub or tree was going to be that large a few years after planting. If you are going to plant anything, you must do your research to see how big that item will be when it is finally mature. Failure to do this may have you digging up plants, shrubs, or trees and replanting them elsewhere.
We recommend asking multiple questions, before choosing anything to plant in your yard. This will save you so many headaches in the future.
Not Hiding All Those Ugly Eyesores
Do you have garbage cans sitting out in the open in your yard? What about utility boxes or the top of a well? All those items can easily be hidden by plants and even hedges. The key is to choose the proper sized item to hide the ugly eyesore you don’t want people to see.
If you are unsure of what items to choose, you can always ask us to see what we would recommend.
Not Using the Proper Planters
Old tires can come in handy for many things, but you may want to reconsider using them as planters in your yard. They do not add any curb appeal to your landscaping and can even hurt the value of your home. We cannot stress enough how important it is to use the proper planters if you really want to spruce up the landscaping around your home.
There are plenty of fantastic planters available for purchase or you can always get rid of the planters and simply place everything in the ground.
Stop the Symmetry
Having to trees or two shrubs planted in the same place across from one another may seem like a no brainer. However, doing this will make the upkeep a nightmare for you! Every time you go out to maintain anything that is symmetrical in your yard, you will drive yourself crazy trying to keep them looking the same.
While you may stop worrying about it after a while, we can guarantee that those symmetrical items will not look as good as they would if they were planted in different areas of your yard.
Forgetting to Prune Your Shrubs and Plants
There are so many plants and shrubs out there that need to be pruned if you want them to look their best. Sometimes, not pruning those items in your garden can cause everything to lay dormant. This means you will not have any blooms and your yard will look depressing.
You must do your research to see when you must prune each of the different items in your garden, so that you do it at the proper time. Oh, and if you know you will not prune anything in your garden, either don’t plant it or call in the professionals to do it for you!
Neglecting Your Hedges
Hedges can create individual sitting areas, blocked off spaces, and even privacy from your neighbors. If you keep your hedges looking nice, they will serve you well for many years. However, if you neglect your hedges, you may find that they are overgrown and filled with weeds and small growing baby trees.
These are six landscaping problems you can avoid easily. While you may not want to tackle them all on your own, you should at least hire someone to make sure you are not making these landscaping mistakes long into the future.
